2016 Canadian Olympic Dressage Rankings as of February 15, 2016

In the absence of any official information from Equine Canada (EC) on the Canadian Olympic dressage criteria, we will be keeping an updated (UNOFFICIAL) ranking list.

New to the list is Chris von MartelsDivertimento who took part in their first CDI together. von Martels, who won 2015 Pan Am Silver and Bronze, is leasing the 14-year-old Hanoverian gelding from six-time Swedish Olympian Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfvén. It's a strong start for the combination who only began their partnership a few weeks ago.

A reminder that because there is also no list of declared athletes (unlike previous years), we have no way of knowing definitively which athletes have declared their pursuit to represent Canadian dressage at the Rio 2016 Olympic , and who haven't - so bear that in mind when looking at our rankings.

What we do know is that the criteria requires athletes to submit:

  • Four (4) scores achieved within the period of January 1, 2016 to July 3, 2016.
  • A maximum of two (2) scores can be from the Grand Prix Speciale.
  • A maximum of two (2) scores can be from the same competition

So bear this in mind when looking at the scores accrued to date by these riders as most are still working towards achieving all 4 scores.

Since Canada was not able to qualify a team for the Rio Olympics at the 2015 Pan American Games (that slot went to the USA), we did achieve an individual ticket thanks to Belinda Trussell's individual placing.

A second individual slot could be achieved by Canada if they achieve the top athlete placing in their FEI Group on the FEI Olympic Athletes Ranking list. (Groups D & E).
This seems very likely given the Canadian dominance in this FEI grouping.

A composite team is more unrealistic for Canada to achieve, as it is achieved through the FEI Ranking List and will likely go to Denmark. Although Belinda Trussell is currently Canada's highest ranked rider, her ranking would not count since she was responsible for securing Canada's first slot at the Pan American Games.

Hopefully this will be of help for you to keep track and cheer on your favourite horse/rider combination!

Next up in the calendar are:
February 24 - 28: Global Dressage Festival CDI-W, Wellington, Florida
February 25 - 28: LA Winter Dressage CDI-W Burbank, California
