This clinic is the first in a series of 3 and provides the foundation for building confidence and a true partnership with your horse based on mutual understanding, trust and respect.
This clinic is an introduction to horse psychology, body language and herd dynamics, their relevance in horse training and their affect on the development of a trusting and respectful partnership with your horse.
The day begins with a demonstration by Anne Gage of how your body language affects your horse’s behaviour and how he feels about being with you. Much more than moving your horse’s feet, it’s about moving the horse in a way that encourages him to be relaxed and balanced – mentally as well as physically.
Participants will each have an opportunity to work with a horse to experience this method of communication. You will be coached by Anne Gage and the horse who will give you instantaneous feedback about your body posture, alignment and energy. You will understand exactly how the horse feels in any given moment, if you are causing his behaviour and what to do to change it.
You and your horse as well as your partnership will benefit from what you learn in this clinic. You will both develop more understanding, trust, respect, focus, willingness and confidence in each other.
Participants will:
Develop increased awareness of your body and your physical surroundings.
Interpret your horse’s feedback so that, instead of reacting to your horse’s behaviour, you can pro-actively prevent unwanted behaviours.
Know the difference between assertiveness and aggressiveness.
Have greater understanding, empathy, and compassion for your horse’s perspective.
Increase your focus, confidence, and quality of communication.
Participants not bringing their own horses will be matched with a rescue horse.
This clinic is suitable all levels of horse people as well as people with no previous horse experience.
Auditors are welcome. All auditor fees and a portion of the participant fees go directly to WHHR.
